Mariela Castro leads the charge for equality in Cuba.
Although gay marriage is currently illegal in Cuba, it appears change is imminent. The BBC is reporting that
Mariela Castro, daughter of Raul Castro, will preside over a mass, symbolic ceremony during Cuba's Pride weekend:
Ms Castro, the head of the National Sex Education Centre and a member of Cuba's National Assembly, says her father supports same-sex marriage, but no legislation has yet been approved.
"We can't do a wedding, but we wanted to have a very modest celebration of love with some religious leaders," said Ms Castro, "In the future we'll see what more we can do."
For her part, Mariela Castro Espin has been a
lead voice and dedicated activist for LGBT rights in Cuba.
